The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to host a workout for Pittsburgh native and former University of Pittsburgh quarterback Ben DiNucci before training camp, as reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston.
DiNucci was last active in the NFL in 2023 with the Denver Broncos’ practice squad. Originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, he was released in 2021. After not playing in the NFL in 2022, DiNucci joined the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL.

Over his career, DiNucci has appeared in three NFL games and started one for the Cowboys in 2020. His career stats include 219 passing yards and a 53.5% completion rate.
DiNucci, a Pittsburgh native, attended Pine-Richland High School, where he became one of the top quarterbacks in the WPIAL, throwing for 4,000 yards in his senior year—the first player in WPIAL history to do so.
After committing to Pitt, DiNucci started multiple games in his sophomore year but was eventually replaced by freshman Kenny Pickett. He then transferred to James Madison, leading the Dukes to prominence in 2018 and 2019.
DiNucci is the third player the Steelers have worked out in the past two days, following fullback Tory Carter and defensive end Marquiss Spencer. These workouts are likely to ensure depth in case of injuries or unexpected situations. Currently, the Steelers have four quarterbacks on their roster, including undrafted rookie John Rhys Plumlee.
