Understand Cincinnati Bengals Solidify Team With Veteran Edge Rusher

The Cincinnati Bengals are working to restructure Trey Hendrickson’s contract this offseason, and ESPN’s Bill Barnwell believes they should bring in another veteran pass rusher to complement him.

Barnwell identified Him as a potential fit for Cincinnati, as well as Kansas City and Washington. The 32-year-old had a rough season, posting a career-low 43 PFF grade over 655 snaps.

“He rebounded over the final seven games, recording four sacks, six knockdowns, and a pick-six,” Barnwell noted. “However, a deeper analysis dampens that optimism—one sack came when a lineman appeared to trip, another was a coverage sack, and one resulted from two Washington linemen focusing on another rusher, leaving Judon free to sack Jayden Daniels. So, his late-season surge may not be as impressive as it seems.”

Barnwell described Judon as a smart, reliable player but noted that, as he turns 33, he would likely be most effective in a rotational role. Between 2018 and 2022, he logged 20 or more quarterback hits in five straight seasons and had nine in just four games before a season-ending injury with New England in 2023. The Falcons seemingly moved on by signing Leonard Floyd, but Judon is expected to land a one-year deal with a contending team.

While he may have a couple of productive seasons left, there’s also a chance he’s past his prime. Using him in a limited role could help maximize his remaining effectiveness. PFF projects him to sign a one-year, $4.5 million contract in the coming months.
