The 2025 MLB season is speeding along, with the calendar now at mid-June. The All-Star break is just weeks away, and the trade deadline is quickly approaching—an opportunity for the Detroit Tigers to add key pieces as they pursue their first World Series championship in four decades.

With a little over a month remaining before the deadline, the Tigers need to establish a clear strategy before rival teams snap up the top players on the market. They’ve already missed out on one potential addition, as the Boston Red Sox dealt Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Looking ahead to possible trade acquisitions, one MLB analyst has suggested the Tigers consider bringing back a familiar face to strengthen their infield.

Tigers Encouraged to Reunite With 3B Eugenio Suarez at Trade Deadline

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden recently shared the latest trade deadline chatter, highlighting the Detroit Tigers’ potential moves. When it comes to Detroit, Bowden suggested the team should consider bringing back Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez.

“The Tigers are expected to be active at the deadline, aiming to strengthen both their bullpen and lineup. A powerful third baseman is their top priority,” Bowden noted. “Reuniting with Suárez might be the best option.”

Currently sitting at 36–35, Arizona’s postseason hopes remain uncertain. That puts them in a position to possibly offload short-term assets like Suárez, who’s set to become a free agent this offseason, making him a logical trade candidate.

Playoff-contending teams are always on the lookout for another big bat, and Suárez fits the profile. His expiring contract means the Tigers likely wouldn’t have to give up a significant haul to acquire him.

A former All-Star, Suárez has been one of the more productive third basemen in recent years. Across 1,542 career games, he’s totaled 297 home runs, 888 RBIs, and 607 walks—precisely the kind of veteran teams love to add during a postseason push.

Suárez is putting up solid numbers again this year with the Diamondbacks, posting a .233/.307/.527 slash line along with 21 homers, 57 RBIs, and 21 walks over 71 games. If he stays on this pace, he could notch his fourth career season with 30+ home runs and 100 RBIs.

Originally signed by the Tigers as an amateur free agent in 2008, Suárez rose through the system and debuted in the majors just over five years later. However, his time in Detroit was short-lived—he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds after the 2014 season. He spent seven seasons in Cincinnati, then two in Seattle, before joining the Diamondbacks in a trade last November.

Bringing Suárez back more than a decade after his departure could be a compelling move for Detroit. Not only would it inject proven power into the lineup, but it would also allow fans to reflect on what might’ve been had Suárez stayed in the Motor City.
