Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter has quickly established himself as a cornerstone of the team’s formidable defense, making the latest update on his health particularly concerning.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Carter was absent from his Super Bowl 2025 media session on Wednesday, Feb. 5, due to an unspecified illness, which could linger in the coming days.
“[Eagles] standout DL Jalen Carter missed his media availability today because of an illness, I’m told,” Rapoport shared on X. “We’ll learn later about whether he participated in practice and if so, how much.”
Rapoport did not clarify whether the illness was viral or bacterial but suggested more details would emerge soon.
A potential absence from Carter would be a significant blow for Philadelphia, though there is no definitive reason to believe he won’t play on Sunday. However, even if he takes the field at less than full strength, it could pose challenges for the Eagles.
Carter was one of the NFL’s top defensive linemen in his second season, earning Pro Bowl honors and a Second-Team All-Pro selection. He also finished as the runner-up for Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2023.
Statistically, Carter was dominant, recording 53 quarterback pressures, six pass deflections, five sacks, and two forced fumbles as a premier interior pass-rusher. He also excelled against the run, contributing 30 solo tackles, per Pro Football Focus.
