Report: Yankees Trade proposal Sends Top-Five Home Run Hitter Trent Grisham to Braves In 2-Player Blockbuster Deal

Despite enduring a series of injuries to their starting rotation—including Gerrit Cole, Luis Gil, and now Marcus Stroman—the New York Yankees still lead the American League East with a 24-17 record. Fortunately, free agent acquisition Max Fried has emerged as the top pitcher in all of Major League Baseball.

If the Yankees hope to defend their American League title and make another run at the World Series, they’ll likely need to add another starting pitcher, whether immediately or closer to the trade deadline.

One recent trade proposal has New York dealing with the Atlanta Braves, sending power hitter Trent Grisham—currently among the top five in home runs—to Atlanta in exchange for unexpected strikeout standout Grant Holmes.

Trent Grisham, the Unsung Hero

There’s no question the Yankees boast one of the top lineups in baseball, thanks in large part to Aaron Judge’s nightly heroics. But they’ve also gotten valuable production from other bats — including Austin Wells, a rejuvenated Paul Goldschmidt, and the surprising emergence of Trent Grisham.

Grisham, in particular, is enjoying the best offensive stretch of his career. Over 34 games, he’s batting .288 with 12 home runs, a 1.036 OPS, and improved plate discipline. This hot streak presents the Yankees with a prime chance to trade him while his value is high, especially since regression is likely.

The Case for Grant Holmes

Over in Atlanta, Grant Holmes is making a strong impression as he settles into the Braves’ starting rotation. He’s logged 45.2 innings with 44 strikeouts, showing promise in his new role. Meanwhile, the Yankees are facing a lack of reliable starting options beyond Max Fried, Carlos Rodón—who’s been inconsistent—and Clarke Schmidt. The Will Warren trial hasn’t panned out, making a trade for a dependable starter the most sensible move.

Grant Holmes' journey to Braves hard to believe, even for him

The Braves, on the other hand, are in the market for a corner outfielder. While Ronald Acuña Jr. is nearing a return, left field remains a question mark. Alex Verdugo, a former Yankee, is currently manning the position, but his lack of power limits his impact at the plate.

Holmes could be an ideal third or fourth starter for New York while they await the returns of Luis Gil and Marcus Stroman, who’s hoped to be out only as a precaution.

Ultimately, injuries have taken a toll on the Yankees’ rotation, and they need reinforcements soon. Though they currently lead the AL East, that position could be in jeopardy if their rotation remains shaky outside of Fried. Expect the Yankees to be among the more aggressive teams pursuing pitching help as the trade deadline nears.
