Russell Wilson has been managing a calf injury leading up to Week 1, and the Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be leaning toward a cautious approach with their veteran quarterback.

According to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, Justin Fields is “more likely” to start against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday than Wilson. Wilson is currently listed as questionable, and the Steelers have a history of being careful with calf injuries.

On Saturday, it was reported that Wilson informed the Steelers he feels healthy enough to play, but the team is opting to be more conservative and will likely wait until just before kickoff to make a final decision.

Wilson appears to have aggravated a calf injury he initially sustained during a conditioning test at the beginning of training camp over a month ago. It seems he may not be fully recovered or has experienced a setback.

Although Wilson secured the starting job over Fields during the offseason, Fields could be the one starting against Atlanta. If Fields, the former Ohio State standout, performs well, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin may face a tough decision heading into Week 2.
