The San Francisco Giants missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season, finishing with a record of 80-82.

After capturing three World Series championships between 2010 and 2014, the Giants have only managed to reach the postseason twice in the last decade.

This offseason presents an opportunity for the Giants to capitalize on a stacked free-agent market and add top-tier talent to their roster for the 2025 season.

Corbin Burnes, one of the top free-agent starting pitchers available, is drawing significant interest, and MLB insider Jon Heyman has identified the Giants as favorites to sign him.

Burnes, 30, debuted with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2018 and spent six seasons there before joining the Baltimore Orioles in 2024. During his 2024 campaign with Baltimore, Burnes made 32 starts, posting a 2.92 ERA with 181 strikeouts across 194.1 innings.

Heyman noted that former Giants legend Buster Posey recently met with Burnes’ agent, Scott Boras, suggesting that negotiations may be gaining momentum.

If Burnes joins the Giants, he would form a formidable one-two punch in the rotation alongside Logan Webb. Heyman believes the duo would significantly boost the Giants’ chances in 2025.

With eight World Series titles in franchise history, signing Burnes could position the Giants as strong contenders for their ninth championship.
