The Cincinnati Reds entered the season with high expectations. Under the leadership of the legendary Terry Francona, the team seems poised to usher in a new era of baseball in Cincinnati, which is quite exciting to think about.
Elly De La Cruz and Matt McLain, who both made the jump from the minors, have been outstanding. McLain is emerging as one of the top young infielders in the game, while De La Cruz has the potential to be one of the best players in all of baseball.
Combine that with a strong pitching rotation led by Cy Young contender Hunter Greene, and the Reds could be a surprise team in the National League, right?

Well, not quite.
Everything I’ve mentioned so far is true, but there are a few critical reasons why the Reds may not achieve success with their current roster setup.
Heston Kjerstad could be the solution to the Reds’ offensive issues
Cincinnati’s outfield offense is currently lacking, which is hindering their chances of success. Players like TJ Friedl, Jake Fraley, Will Benson, and others have struggled recently, with Benson not even making the major league roster. Spencer Steer, despite battling a shoulder injury, is still starting due to the team’s severe lack of depth.

To address these issues, a potential solution could be a blockbuster trade for Heston Kjerstad, the prospect outfielder from the Baltimore Orioles. Although Kjerstad has seen some time in the majors, he hasn’t yet had the opportunity to truly shine.
Kjerstad is currently a fourth outfielder in Baltimore, making him an ideal trade candidate for the Orioles to acquire some pitching in return. With his considerable potential, he would be a welcome addition to the Reds and could easily become a regular starter for the next few years, given the team’s current roster situation.
A potential trade could involve players like Carson Spiers or Andrew Abbott. While Abbott is the more established major leaguer, he also carries significantly more value. Cincinnati could potentially deal Abbott to Baltimore for Kjerstad, along with another top-ten prospect, if they are willing to make the move.
Additionally, there are rumors that Baltimore might be open to trading Ryan Mountcastle, which could add an interesting dynamic to a potential deal that includes both Abbott and Kjerstad.
