Here’s why the Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers are top contenders to pursue 1,100-yard running back Dameon Pierce.
The Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers are seen as likely candidates to target 1,100-yard running back Dameon Pierce if he becomes available for trade. According to a report, a source suggests that the Cowboys might make a significant move for Pierce, as he seems like a logical choice for the team, though there are other interested parties. Pierce has previously been linked to trade rumors involving the Cowboys, but given their inactivity this offseason, it’s uncertain if they’ll pursue him. However, the Texans might consider trading him after a disappointing season last year.
Pierce still offers potential for a team in need of an additional running back. He performed well in his rookie season in 2022, rushing for 939 yards with an average of 4.3 yards per carry as the starter. However, his position on the depth chart has declined and is likely to continue to do so if he remains in Houston. Trading him might be a smart move to revitalize his career. Despite the presence of C.J. Stroud, Pierce struggled with an average of just 2.9 yards per carry.
Devin Singletary unexpectedly became the starter, but he is no longer with the team after the Texans acquired Joe Mixon in an offseason trade. Mixon is expected to be the starter, even though he is older, leaving Pierce as the backup, who might not get much playing time if he stays with the Texans. The Ravens could benefit from adding a running back, despite their plans to give Derrick Henry a heavy workload.
Baltimore should consider sharing the snaps with a reliable second running back. Meanwhile, the Panthers might look for a new asset if they decide to trade Miles Sanders after his disappointing season last year.

Other Potential Trade Fits
Los Angeles Chargers
Jim Harbaugh faces a challenging offseason but aims to strengthen the running game for Justin Herbert. This will be a new experience for Herbert since he no longer has Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, or Austin Ekeler. While Herbert aspires to remain a top-5 quarterback, it seems unlikely this season due to their slim playoff chances. However, trading for an affordable running back like Pierce could improve their prospects, positioning him behind Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins.
Both Edwards and Dobbins have excellent track records but are prone to injuries, making it wise to add another reliable running back as a precaution.
Kansas City Chiefs
Isiah Pacheco offers both explosive playmaking and reliability for this elite team, making him irreplaceable. However, the team’s depth at the running back position is concerning, especially with Clyde Edwards-Helaire returning but not significantly contributing to the offense led by Patrick Mahomes. Jerick McKinnon should be highly regarded by the Chiefs due to his continued effort and potential value. If the Chiefs no longer see him in that light, trading for Pierce could enhance the competition for the No. 2 spot.
New Orleans Saints
This trade is unlikely to occur because the Saints are still dealing with wide receiver and salary cap concerns. Nevertheless, Alvin Kamara was mentioned in trade rumors this offseason, and if these come to fruition, the team could use the saved money to acquire a more affordable player. Jamaal Williams would likely take over as the starter, leaving a significant gap for the No. 2 position. Pierce could fill this role as an economical complement to Williams.
