As the offseason began, the Philadelphia Phillies found themselves linked to numerous rumors, with one of the most intriguing being the potential trade of their All-Star third baseman, Alec Bohm. However, this move hinges on the team’s ability to secure a suitable replacement in free agency.
What could such a move entail?
FanSided’s Christopher Kline offers a possible scenario. If the Phillies are serious about parting ways with Bohm, Kline suggests they should target free-agent infielder of the Houston Astros. Bregman is projected to sign a four-year, $119 million deal this winter, and Philadelphia could be a potential landing spot.
“Bregman is 30 years old with a limited prime window, but he’s an established winner who still checks about every box. He’s disciplined at the plate, cool under pressure, and deft with his glove at the hot corner (or second base),” Kline noted. “There’s no doubt that Bregman’s consistency would dramatically improve the Phillies lineup, which sometimes feels too boom-or-bust.”

Adding Bregman would be a perfect fit for Philadelphia’s roster. The team could capitalize on Bohm’s trade value to land a star player like Garrett Crochet, Luis Robert Jr., or Ryan Helsley in a blockbuster deal.
However, the Astros are aggressively working to retain Bregman, who is a cornerstone of their franchise. Houston is expected to offer closer to $200 million over six years to keep him. If the Phillies want to secure Bregman, they’ll need to be prepared to spend big.
