The Philadelphia Phillies are actively seeking to strengthen their bullpen this offseason, with options including trades or free agency.

According to The Athletic’s MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the Oakland A’s initiated trade talks with the Phillies, proposing Alec Bohm. However, when the Phillies expressed interest in Mason Miller, the A’s reportedly shut down the discussion.

Miller, who will earn just $740,000 in 2025 and has yet to enter arbitration, is a valuable asset for the A’s. After a standout season with a 2.49 ERA and 28 saves, his affordability and performance make him a key player the A’s are reluctant to part with.

This raises the question: what would it take for the Phillies to acquire Miller?

FanSided’s Quinn Everts speculated on a potential trade package, suggesting the A’s might consider Bohm alongside a prospect. However, top prospects like Aidan Miller and Andrew Painter would likely remain off-limits.

Everts suggested the Phillies could offer prospects such as Starlyn Caba or Justin Crawford, ranked No. 3 and No. 4 in their system, to tempt the A’s. Adding a lower-tier prospect might also be necessary to finalize the deal.

With the Phillies in win-now mode, they are expected to aggressively pursue Miller or another top-tier reliever to bolster their chances.
