REPORT: Philadelphia Phillies-Houston Astros Blockbuster Trade Land $16M Slugger, All-Star In Five-Player Deal As Astros Won’t Re-sign Third Baseman Alex Bregman

The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to shake up their roster after an early playoff exit in 2024. Could president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski make a major move by trading with the Houston Astros for outfielder Kyle Tucker and relief pitcher Ryan Pressly?

Tucker has been linked to the Phillies several times in recent months. With the 2025 season potentially being his last before free agency, the Astros are open to the idea of moving him this offseason. Tucker is expected to earn $16.7 million next year after posting a .993 OPS with 23 home runs and 49 RBI in 339 plate appearances.

Pressly, who will make $14 million in 2025, is also entering his final year before free agency. The two-time All-Star was Houston’s main closer from 2021 to 2023, but was replaced by Josh Hader.

While the Phillies recently signed closer Jordan Romano to a one-year contract, their bullpen could benefit from an addition like Pressly. What might a trade proposal look like to bring both Pressly and Tucker to Philadelphia?

Former Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. suggested the following potential deal on MLB Network:

  • Phillies receive: Outfielder Kyle Tucker and relief pitcher Ryan Pressly
  • Astros receive: Outfielder Nick Castellanos, third baseman Alec Bohm, and either right-handed pitcher Mick Abel or shortstop Starlyn Caba

This deal likely assumes the Astros won’t re-sign free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman, but it could also open the door for the Phillies to acquire the two-time World Series champion.

If the Phillies land Tucker, it would make sense to try and extend him long-term. Spotrac estimates his current market value at seven years and $195 million.
