The San Diego Padres are reportedly open to moving several players with expiring contracts this season, as they have a significant amount of money tied up in a few of their star players. This has left nearly every player on the roster available for trade.

In a recent prediction, Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report suggested the Padres could trade Luis Arráez, citing the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, San Francisco Giants, and Seattle Mariners as potential destinations.

“Arráez has won three straight batting titles and his career average (.323) is comparable to last season’s second-leading hitter,” Rymer wrote. “He’s struck out only 405 times since 2019, which is fewer than many players in the league today.

However, there are some drawbacks: he mostly hits singles, walks infrequently, and his defense at second and first base leaves room for improvement. Nevertheless, he’s a valuable top-of-the-lineup bat, and his market could be strong if he becomes available.”

The Reds may not be an ideal fit unless they experience a significant number of injuries, as they already have Matt McLain and Gavin Lux slated for second base. Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Jeimer Candelario, and Spencer Steer provide solid depth at other positions.

The Mariners, who could use any offensive boost, would be a logical suitor. Meanwhile, both the Tigers and Giants could use a first baseman and would benefit from adding a high-average hitter like Arráez at the top of their lineups.
