REPORT: Los Angeles Dodgers To Land Milwaukee Brewers’ Devin Williams To Address World Series Champs’ Need

The Milwaukee Brewers may consider trading star closer Devin Williams before the 2024 MLB season. While Williams remains on the team, rumors of a potential move have been rampant, with the Los Angeles Dodgers frequently mentioned as a possible destination.

The Dodgers, fresh off a World Series victory, boast an impressive roster of elite talent. However, their bullpen was a weak spot last season, and acquiring Williams could address this need as they prepare for the 2025 campaign.

Eric Treuden of FanSided identified the Dodgers as one of four teams that could be in the mix for Williams. Known for their deep resources, the reigning champions have limited areas requiring upgrades this offseason. However, their depth chart suggests the lack of a true closer.

While Michael Kopech and Evan Phillips combined for over 15 saves last season, adding Williams would allow them to focus on “stopper” roles within the bullpen. With a wealth of prospects, the Dodgers have the assets to make a trade happen. The Brewers might even eye a big-league-ready player like Wisconsin native Gavin Lux as part of a potential deal.

Could a Devin Williams trade from Milwaukee Brewers to Los Angeles Dodgers happen?

The Brewers have chosen not to exercise their $10.5 million club option on Williams for the 2025 season. Instead, they are expected to pay him over $8 million during his final arbitration year, according to Spotrac. While Milwaukee has the option to offer the 30-year-old an extension, that doesn’t appear to be their current plan.

For the Dodgers, adding Williams would strengthen their bullpen, which ranked 13th in MLB in 2024 with a 3.92 ERA and 21st with a 4.18 FIP.
