The Los Angeles Dodgers, fresh off their second World Series title in five years, secured their championship by defeating the New York Yankees in five games. However, as they gear up for the 2025 season, the roster still has areas that could be strengthened.
One potential move could see president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman targeting Chicago White Sox ace to bolster the pitching rotation.
While the Dodgers have a number of starting pitchers on their roster, many come with uncertainties heading into next season. Shohei Ohtani hasn’t pitched since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023, Bobby Miller struggled with an 8.52 ERA over 56 innings, and Tyler Glasnow, Tony Gonsolin, and Dustin May all ended 2024 on the injured list.
Adding Him could significantly upgrade the rotation. The southpaw, who was an All-Star in his first full season as a starter, delivered a stellar performance with a 3.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 209 strikeouts over 146 innings. Spotrac values him at $130 million over six years, yet he remains under team control via arbitration, projected to earn just $2.9 million next season.

What would it take to land Crochet? JustBaseball’s Elijah Evans proposed a trade scenario in which:
- Dodgers receive: LHP Garrett Crochet
- White Sox receive: C Dalton Rushing, SS Alex Freeland, and SS Emil Morales
This deal would send three top-10 Dodgers prospects to Chicago. According to MLB.com, Rushing ranks first, Freeland third, and Morales eighth in L.A.’s farm system. Despite the steep price, the Dodgers, with a farm system ranked eighth in MLB by Bleacher Report, can afford such a move.
Acquiring Crochet would provide the Dodgers with a potential ace for at least two seasons and the flexibility to sign him to a long-term deal. It mirrors their approach last offseason when they extended Tyler Glasnow following a trade.
