The Boston Red Sox may be facing a potential issue with third baseman Rafael Devers. After the team signed superstar infielder Alex Bregman last week, rumors have surfaced that Devers isn’t thrilled about moving from third base to designated hitter to make room for Bregman.
While it’s unlikely that this situation will escalate to the point of a trade demand, it’s becoming an increasingly possible scenario. If the Red Sox fail to manage this situation effectively, Devers could ask for a move as soon as this season.
FanSided’s Christopher Kline recently named the Philadelphia Phillies as a potential suitor for Devers, should Boston decide to trade him.

Kline noted that while the Phillies might target a big-name player in the offseason, they could make a move for Devers sooner, given their fierce competition in the NL against teams like Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York. Adding Devers to a lineup with Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and Bryce Harper would make the Phillies even more formidable.
Philadelphia has also been linked to other third base options like Bregman and trade target Nolan Arenado. The Phillies have reportedly been open to trading Alec Bohm, their All-Star third baseman, which could be part of the return for Devers.
However, the Phillies’ farm system may not be deep enough to make a trade realistic, which could limit their ability to land Devers despite the fit.
