His free agency is shaping up to be a blockbuster, with his contract likely exceeding $180 million and potentially surpassing $200 million once he signs.

The Houston Astros, Bregman’s current team, appear to have bowed out of the bidding after acquiring Isaac Paredes and Christian Walker to cover third and first base, respectively. So, where does that leave His market?

Jon Heyman of the New York Post has recently connected Him with two familiar American League contenders. This shouldn’t come as a surprise given the circumstances.

“The (Detroit) Tigers, with his former Astros manager A.J. Hinch, and (Boston) Red Sox, with his former Astros coach Alex Cora, have often been linked to this outstanding all-around third baseman with a strong postseason track record,” Heyman noted.

It seems likely that the Tigers and Red Sox will be the primary competitors for Bregman. While the New York Yankees have been mentioned as potential suitors, it’s doubtful they’ll spend another $200 million on a new star for their roster.

The Tigers desperately need to improve their offense to regain their fans’ trust after the disastrous handling of their 2024 roster. Adding Bregman would provide not only a key veteran presence in a young and talented clubhouse but also a reliable bat in the lineup.

The Red Sox, on the other hand, have reportedly considered trading Triston Casas and shifting Rafael Devers to first base. If they pursue this route, signing Bregman to a lucrative deal could fill their need for a top-tier third baseman to bolster their championship ambitions.
