MLB insider Robert Murray of FanSided recently compiled a list of unexpected trade candidates, highlighting Boston Red Sox outfielder as someone who could be moved this season.

He is a versatile outfielder coming off a breakout year with the Red Sox, during which he hit .285/.342/.492 with 21 homers and 75 RBIs,” Murray wrote. “This season, he’s slashing .264/.312/.406 with four home runs and 34 RBIs. The rationale for trading Him is clear: Boston could capitalize on his high value while clearing space for top prospect Roman Anthony, who many believe is already MLB-ready.”

Murray also mentioned that the San Diego Padres have expressed interest in Him, and teams like the St. Louis Cardinals could also be strong potential landing spots.

A Red Sox-Cardinals trade for Jarren Duran might make perfect sense

The Cardinals find themselves at a turning point. Initially, it looked like they were heading into a major rebuild after allowing several veterans to leave in free agency and reportedly exploring trade options for Nolan Arenado. However, they’ve outperformed expectations so far this season.

As a result, St. Louis might pivot to trading players on expiring deals—like Ryan Helsley—in order to bring in younger, controllable talent such as Jarren Duran. A deal involving Helsley and prospects for Duran could end up being mutually beneficial.

From the Red Sox’s perspective, as Murray points out, the move would be about capitalizing on Duran’s high value while he still has several years of team control. While losing him would be a significant hit, acquiring someone like Helsley in return could make the deal worthwhile.

Adding Jarren Duran would be expensive but forward-thinking

The Cardinals might consider bundling Ryan Helsley with starter Erick Fedde and several top prospects to acquire Jarren Duran. They could also include a high-level pitching prospect such as Tink Hence or Quinn Mathews to help finalize the deal for the talented outfielder. Although the price would be steep, bringing in Duran could be a major step in advancing the team’s future.

St. Louis could use another dynamic young outfielder on their roster. Pairing Duran with Jordan Walker, Victor Scott II, and other promising players would significantly strengthen the Cardinals moving ahead.
