The Cincinnati Reds are bringing back catcher Austin Wynns and utility player Levi Jordan for the 2025 season. Both players spent time with the Reds in 2024 but also played in Triple-A.

Wynns originally signed with the Reds in December 2023 on a major league deal but was designated for assignment just over two weeks later. After clearing waivers, he was sent to Triple-A but received an invite to spring training soon after.

In 2024, he split his time between Louisville and Cincinnati, appearing in 38 games before suffering a right teres major tear in late July, which ended his season. After the season, he was designated for assignment again but cleared waivers and was sent to Triple-A. Instead of accepting the assignment, Wynns opted for free agency.

Now, he’s rejoining the organization on a minor league contract. Although the Reds haven’t announced their spring training invites yet, it seems likely that Wynns, a 34-year-old catcher with big league experience, will be among the non-roster invitees.

Former Washington star Levi Jordan could hang with the Cincinnati Reds

While known more for his defensive skills, Wynns showed he could hit when needed. He played in seven games with the Reds, hitting .368 (7-for-19) with four doubles. In Triple-A, he played 31 games, batting .250/.307/.404 with four doubles and four home runs.

The Reds’ decision to bring back Wynns helps bolster their catching depth in case of injury to Tyler Stephenson or Jose Trevino, offering another minor league option for the big league team.

Levi Jordan is also returning on a minor league deal. He made his MLB debut with the Reds on June 24, 2024, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in his first game.

He spent a week with the Reds but was sent back to Triple-A after going 0-for-7 in six games. In Louisville, Jordan performed well, posting a .307/.382/.489 line over 95 games, with 23 doubles, 13 home runs, and 10 stolen bases. Defensively, he showed versatility, playing second base, third base, and all three outfield positions, with the majority of his time spent at second base.
