This winter’s free agency period has the potential to shake up Major League Baseball significantly, with multiple Cy Young-caliber pitchers on the market, including the 2023 NL Cy Young winner Blake Snell and 2021 winner Corbin Burnes.
The New York Mets are expected to be a major player in this offseason’s transactions, aiming to redefine their franchise’s trajectory—and free agency offers a prime opportunity.

According to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, the Mets are prepared to pursue the top starting pitchers available, including Burnes, and will be heavily involved in the bidding for Juan Soto. Re-signing Pete Alonso is also a priority, along with targeting other high-caliber players in free agency.
Bowden highlighted that the Mets’ offseason could surpass the excitement of their recent playoff run.
Securing a star like Soto would be an offseason dream come true for Mets fans, but even without him, owner Steve Cohen is expected to invest significantly in talent, potentially signing four or five top-tier players.
While it may not guarantee a championship this year, these moves would set a strong foundation for future World Series runs—something every Mets fan would welcome during the winter.
