Freshman sensation Terry Bussey was one of the most significant acquisitions for the Texas A&M Aggies this offseason, and head coach Mike Elko has stated that he will have a major impact from the start.
**DALLAS** – The Texas A&M Aggies are gearing up for a new beginning under head coach Mike Elko.
In his first six months, Elko has transformed the Aggies’ program, creating a new culture and bringing in over 40 new players through the NCAA Transfer Portal and the 2024 recruiting cycle.
Among these new additions, five-star freshman Terry Bussey is perhaps the most eagerly anticipated.

“Terry was a huge get for us. Mr. Texas. Bringing him to College Station was huge. Obviously, he’s a tremendous athlete,” Elko said at SEC Media Days on Thursday. “We think he has a very bright present and future. He’s extremely young and hasn’t had an official Texas A&M practice yet. We’re excited for him.”
Bussey’s high school career is impressive. As a freshman in 2021, he won the District 10-2A offensive MVP award and was named second-team all-state on both offense and defense. His sophomore year saw him become the 10-2A overall MVP. In 2023, he was named Mr. Football for Texas by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and led his school to a state title, scoring 47 touchdowns despite missing part of the season due to injury.
However, there are still questions about where and when Bussey will debut on the roster. While he could potentially play in various positions, it seems Elko is leaning towards starting him on defense and in the return game.
“I think he’s going to start on defense,” Elko said. “But he has the flexibility to help us in many ways. His ability in the return game is something we want to utilize. We see him playing a critical role for us, not just this year but in the future.”
As for when fans will see Bussey in action, that’s still uncertain. However, against a team like Notre Dame in the season opener, the Aggies are likely to use all their assets, including the freshman phenom.
