The Boston Red Sox traded for starting pitcher Garrett Crochet to strengthen their rotation, but their pursuit of pitching might not be over this offseason. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, both the Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles could be potential landing spots for Seattle Mariners starter.

The Mariners, in need of offensive reinforcements, have reportedly considered trading Castillo despite him having multiple years left on his contract. However, acquiring the 32-year-old won’t be a simple task.

What Luis Castillo can offer a team

Castillo, a two-time All-Star, delivered a solid 3.64 ERA during the 2024 season. He made 30 starts for Seattle, tallying 175 strikeouts over 175.1 innings.

In 2023, he posted an impressive 3.34 ERA with 219 strikeouts across 197 innings, earning his second career All-Star selection that year. Over the past two seasons, Castillo has established himself as one of the sport’s top pitchers.

Castillo’s potential fit with Red Sox, Orioles

The Red Sox could still benefit from adding one or two more starting pitchers. While Crochet will undoubtedly help, questions remain about Boston’s rotation.

The Orioles also need to bolster their pitching staff, especially with the possibility of Corbin Burnes leaving in free agency. Baltimore has been competitive in recent years, but bringing in a veteran pitcher like Castillo could help them take the next step.

That said, there’s no guarantee the Mariners will trade Castillo. If Seattle decides to explore a deal, the Red Sox and Orioles would likely be among the interested teams. Other clubs would also likely inquire, as Luis Castillo could significantly strengthen any rotation in the league.
