LATEST NEWS: Perfect Pittsburgh Steelers’ blockbuster offer land Rams’ Cooper Kupp, with Cooper Kupp accepting his fate of leaving

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ decisions regarding Justin Fields and George Pickens will significantly impact their roster moves. However, there’s an ideal trade offer they should present to the Rams for Cooper Kupp.

Kupp is often regarded as one of the league’s top receivers, but his accolades don’t fully support that reputation. Despite being named AP Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, he has only one Pro Bowl selection in his eight-year career.

Injuries have also been a major setback, causing him to miss nearly 30 games. Any team considering a trade for Kupp should carefully assess the risks involved.

Steelers might pay more than other teams for Cooper Kupp

It’s not out of the question for the Steelers to trade a third-round pick for Cooper Kupp, but that would be a major win for the Rams and a risky move for Pittsburgh. Kupp has only appeared in 23 games over the past three seasons and will turn 32 in June.

The Steelers’ interest in Kupp stems from their unsettled wide receiver situation, as noted by CBS Sports.

“The Steelers have been looking to add a wide receiver for a while now,” Jordan Dajani wrote. “Kupp may not be Brandon Aiyuk, but he’s a playmaker who could bring something valuable to this offense, which is in need of an overhaul. Pittsburgh decides to part with a third-round pick, while the Rams send back a sixth-rounder and cover part of Kupp’s salary. How much L.A. is willing to absorb could be the deciding factor in any deal.”

Cooper Kupp trade: What can Rams realistically expect to get?

However, complications exist. Kupp’s trade value isn’t particularly high, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler via Heavy.com.

“The executives I’ve spoken with believe Cooper Kupp will draw interest,” Fowler said. “He’s quarterback-friendly, excels at contested catches, and is still one of the smartest players on the field. He also sets a strong example with his work ethic.

“But the market for him may not be that strong due to his age, declining production, injuries, and the $20 million he’s owed next season, including $5.5 million in guarantees. The Rams will likely need to absorb some of that salary to make a trade happen, which could influence potential suitors.”

Are the Steelers in a desperate situation?

George Pickens is the Steelers’ most valuable wide receiver, but the team remains uncertain about his reliability both in the short and long term. Head coach Mike Tomlin emphasized Pickens’ need for maturity, as noted in a post on X by Aaron Becker.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin on WR George Pickens’ unsportsmanlike penalties:
“He’s just got to grow up, man. It’s an emotional game. These divisional games are big. He’s got a target on his back because he’s George. He understands that, but he’s gotta grow up.”

Another factor that could influence the Steelers’ pursuit of Cooper Kupp is the status of Tomlin himself. However, the coach dismissed speculation about his future, per NFL.com.

“I have no response to that. I understand the nature of what we do,” Tomlin said. “The attention and criticism that come with it. In fact, I embrace it. I enjoy the urgency that comes with my job and our work. I don’t make excuses for failure—I own it. But I also believe in my ability.”

“As long as I have the opportunity, I will continue. But I understand the frustrations, and more importantly, I share them. That’s how I’m wired. I’m not looking for comfort, especially in times like this. I don’t see myself as a comfort provider because words are hollow. It’s about actions, not just talk.”

The Steelers’ quarterback situation may also play a role in whether they pursue Kupp. If they stick with Russell Wilson, adding a veteran like Kupp could make sense. However, if they transition to Justin Fields, they might prioritize getting younger at wide receiver.

Cooper Kupp is accepting his fate of leaving the Rams

With a $29.7 million cap hit looming for the 2025 season, Cooper Kupp acknowledged that his time with the Rams is likely coming to an end in a post on X.

“I’ve been informed that the team is actively seeking a trade and will work with me and my family to find the best fit to continue competing for championships. While I don’t agree with the decision, I always envisioned my career beginning and ending in LA.

The 2024 season started with one of the best training camps of my career. Now, preparations for 2025 are underway. I’m highly motivated, feeling as healthy as ever, and excited to continue playing at an elite level for years to come. Love you all.”
