The Boston Red Sox have been searching for a high-impact bat this offseason, and with Spring Training nearing, a trade could be their path to securing one.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Red Sox have engaged in discussions with the St. Louis Cardinals regarding eight-time All-Star. The potential deal could also have ripple effects across Major League Baseball, particularly in shaping Alex Bregman’s free agency market.

Morosi reports that the Red Sox and Cardinals have had recent talks about Arenado, and if negotiations progress, they could influence Bregman’s future contract landscape.

Although Arenado’s numbers have dipped slightly over the past two seasons, his consistency would provide a significant boost to Boston’s lineup. Additionally, Fenway Park’s hitter-friendly environment could be beneficial for the veteran slugger.

With a deep farm system, the Red Sox have plenty of prospects to offer in a trade, as noted by Chaim Bloom in Morosi’s report. Arenado has already proven he can thrive in a hitter-friendly ballpark, having led MLB in home runs three times and posting a career .857 OPS, much of it while playing at Coors Field during his time with the Rockies.

Given recent struggles in St. Louis, acquiring Arenado could be a key move for Boston as they aim to compete immediately.

However, the 33-year-old, who has hit 341 career home runs, holds a no-trade clause, meaning he must approve any potential deal. Reports indicate he has already informed the Cardinals that he would consider waiving it if the right opportunity arises.
