LATEST: New York Giants Infuriate Their Fanbase Again

The New York Giants must prioritize adding playmakers this offseason after fielding one of the NFL’s worst offenses over the past two seasons. Holding the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they have a prime opportunity to land a difference-making prospect. However, opinions on who they should select vary among fans and analysts.

While many expect the Giants to draft a quarterback, their reported pursuit of Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford could shift their focus. If they successfully trade for Stafford, they could use their top pick to strengthen another position.

Whether they select the best player available or trade down, adding an elite playmaker—possibly in the backfield—could become a viable option.

Giants reportedly met with Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty

Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, and the New York Giants reportedly met with him at the NFL Scouting Combine.

This meeting could indicate a shift in general manager Joe Schoen’s philosophy, as he has historically placed less emphasis on the running back position. Given the struggles of the Giants’ offense in 2024, Schoen may now view an elite running back as a more valuable asset.

Jeanty, the Heisman Trophy runner-up, ranks No. 5 on Pro Football Focus’s Big Board and is consistently listed among the top prospects across draft analysts’ rankings. However, despite his talent and the Giants’ need for offensive playmakers, selecting him would likely be a mistake.

Investing a high draft pick in a running back—especially with the No. 3 overall selection—does not align with the team’s long-term needs.

The Giants have pressing concerns at quarterback, offensive line, and wide receiver, all of which should take priority over a position that has become increasingly devalued in today’s NFL. If the Giants want to improve their offense, using their premium draft capital on a more impactful position would be the wiser approach.

Jeanty would be the wrong pick for the Giants

Ashton Jeanty is one of the greatest running backs in NCAA history, and his 2024 season was nothing short of legendary. The Boise State star has the talent to be an elite difference-maker at the next level. However, despite his immense skill, he would be the wrong pick for the Giants.

Yes, watching Saquon Barkley lift a Lombardi Trophy with the Philadelphia Eagles stings—deeply. But that shouldn’t push the Giants into an overcorrection by spending a premium pick on another running back.

The Rise of Boise State's Star Running Back: Ashton Jeanty

Joe Schoen clearly miscalculated by letting Barkley leave for a division rival, but he must stay the course with his roster-building strategy.

The Giants already have a promising young back in Tyrone Tracy Jr., and while adding Jeanty would certainly elevate the backfield, it would come at the cost of addressing more pressing needs, such as quarterback, offensive line, or wide receiver.

Realistically, Jeanty isn’t likely to be the Giants’ pick at No. 3. If they trade down, he could become a potential target, but even then, selecting a running back early would be a questionable move.

If the Giants do take Jeanty, despite his generational talent, the fanbase would likely react with frustration—knowing that other areas of need were ignored.
