Justin Fields has guided the Pittsburgh Steelers to victories in their first two games of the season, and it appears he’ll get a shot at a third in Week 3.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday that the team is proceeding with Fields as their starting quarterback. Tomlin mentioned that Russell Wilson has yet to fully participate in practice, which is why he isn’t entertaining any “hypotheticals” ahead of Sunday’s home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.

“We’re preparing with Justin in mind. That’ll be the approach until something changes. Hypotheticals are just distractions,” Tomlin stated.

Wilson re-injured his calf before Week 1, giving Fields the opportunity to start. In that game, the former first-round pick led Pittsburgh to an 18-10 road win against the Atlanta Falcons. The following week, the Steelers secured another tough road win, defeating the Denver Broncos 13-6.

Although Fields’ stats aren’t eye-catching—30/43 for 273 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions—he has avoided turnovers, which was a problem for him with the Chicago Bears.

Wilson appears to be improving, but with the Steelers riding a winning streak, there’s no rush to switch quarterbacks. There has even been speculation that Fields could retain the starting role once Wilson is fully healthy, but Tomlin seems content to take things slowly.
