Masyn Winn established himself as the St. Louis Cardinals’ shortstop of both the present and the future during the 2024 season. Now, as he looks to build on that success, he’s setting an ambitious goal for 2025.
Winn aims to steal at least 30 bases next season. To achieve this, he’s been training in Jupiter, Florida, with a track coach, according to John Denton of MLB.com.
“I didn’t steal as many bases as I wanted last year,” Winn admitted. “I want to get to 30-40 stolen bases, if possible.”
In 2024, across 150 games, Winn batted .267 with 15 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases. While tied for second on the team in stolen bases, Winn is determined to improve. His 15 home runs ranked fifth on the team, but with Paul Goldschmidt already gone and Nolan Arenado likely to follow, Winn’s role as a key offensive contributor is set to grow in 2025. If he can put everything together, he has a real chance to reach the 20/20 mark (20 home runs and 20 stolen bases).

Winn’s minor league numbers demonstrate his potential on the basepaths. Over three seasons in the minors, he stole 92 bases, including 32 in 2021 and 43 in 2022. While his growing power has slightly decreased his stolen base totals, Winn is now focused on striking a balance between power and speed.
With Goldschmidt gone and Arenado’s departure looming, the Cardinals’ infield is undergoing a transformation, giving Winn an even greater opportunity to step into a leadership role in 2025. After navigating the challenges of his rookie season, he now has a chance to elevate his game and become a key figure for the team.
As he adjusts to his new responsibilities, Winn’s main focus remains on improving his performance. Having shown he can handle the grind of a full MLB season, he’s now committed to becoming a force on the bases and proving he can be a true stolen base threat at the highest level.
