The St. Louis Cardinals selected Jordan Walker in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft, and after a solid rookie season in 2023, he earned the starting right field job for Opening Day in 2024. However, he spent a significant portion of that season in Triple-A.

Walker’s 2025 campaign nearly started on a disastrous note when he was forced to exit a game against the Washington Nationals early this week. During the third inning at Cacti Park on Tuesday, he tracked down a fly ball in right field, but after making the throw back in, it was evident something was wrong.

It was later revealed that Walker had stepped on a sprinkler head and jammed his knee. He exited the game after the inning ended.

An MRI on Wednesday showed no structural damage, though he was dealing with inflammation. The Cardinals plan to rest him for a week before reassessing his status.

So far in spring training, Walker has struggled at the plate, going 2-for-14 with eight strikeouts.
