He has been a key contributor for the New York Yankees since his MLB debut in 2018, primarily holding down second base. However, with Him now a free agent, the Yankees have a vacancy at the position.
Although the 28-year-old has expressed a desire to spend his entire career in pinstripes, it seems increasingly unlikely. Several teams have been linked to the right-handed hitter, and the Seattle Mariners could emerge as his next destination this offseason.
MLB analyst Robbie Hyde sees the Mariners as a strong fit for Torres. “He hit much better in the second half after Aaron Boone moved him to the leadoff spot and had an impressive 2023 season,” Hyde noted. “I think the Mariners make the most sense.”
Torres’ 2024 season was underwhelming, as he posted a .709 OPS with 15 home runs, 63 RBI, and 80 runs scored across 665 plate appearances. Even so, his career includes four 20-plus homer seasons since 2018, and he slashed .273/.347/.453 during a strong 2023 campaign.

His numbers would represent a significant upgrade for the Mariners, whose second basemen combined to hit just .209/.301/.357 in 2024. Jorge Polanco handled most of the workload, appearing in 110 games and recording a .651 OPS.
Tim Britton of The Athletic projects Torres could secure a three-year, $45 million deal this offseason.
