The race to sign Roki Sasaki is intensifying, with his international signing period set to begin in about three weeks. Reports suggest that the San Francisco Giants are among the teams that have already met with the star Japanese pitcher.
The Giants have met with Roki Sasaki
The San Francisco Giants are reported to have met with Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The team, which has clear needs in its starting rotation, has also been linked to free-agent right-hander Corbin Burnes and is considered a strong contender for the former Cy Young Award winner, as noted in a recent MLB.com article.

However, the Giants face stiff competition for Sasaki, with several other teams either meeting or planning to meet with him. Teams that have already held discussions include the Yankees, Mets, Cubs, and Rangers.
The Giants are in urgent need of pitching depth, particularly after losing Blake Snell to the Dodgers in free agency. They’ve been proactive this offseason, bolstering their offense by signing shortstop Willy Adames.
The Giants need starting pitching help
The Giants are actively seeking starting pitching and could target Roki Sasaki if they fail to land Corbin Burnes in free agency. Since Sasaki is just 23 years old with less than six years of experience, he would only be eligible for an amateur-level deal, making him a more affordable option compared to Burnes.
San Francisco already has reliable starters like Jordan Hicks and Logan Webb anchoring their rotation, but they lack a true ace to elevate the group’s potential. Sasaki has the skills to develop into a dominant MLB starter and could help the Giants assemble an elite pitching staff.
As Sasaki’s signing period nears, he will continue meeting with teams, but the Giants are expected to pursue him aggressively to address their pressing need for pitching depth.
