JUST IN: Seattle Seahawks Received Yet Again More Heart-Breaking News On QB Geno Smith

Geno Smith’s season with the Seattle Seahawks has been a mixed bag. In last week’s 36-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Smith struggled, throwing two interceptions. This brought his season total to six, matching the number of touchdown passes he’s thrown, which somewhat overshadows his league-leading 1,778 passing yards.

This isn’t the first time Smith has had interception issues since becoming Seattle’s starter. During Weeks 6-9 of last season, he threw six interceptions in four games but rebounded well for the rest of the year. He also had a rough patch with turnovers the previous season but was fortunate not to throw even more.

Despite these fluctuations, the Seahawks appear content with Smith’s overall performance over the past two and a half seasons. Ahead of Week 7, Vinnie Iyer from The Sporting News ranks Smith 15th among NFL quarterbacks. TSN notes that Smith has adapted well to a faster-paced and more aggressive passing attack under former Washington Huskies offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, leading the league in passing yards but with room to improve his efficiency.

While Smith’s film might suggest he’s better than Brock Purdy (ranked 6th) and Kirk Cousins (ranked 10th), he hasn’t done enough to climb past Caleb Williams (13th) or Sam Darnold (14th). A case could be made for Smith to rank as high as 11th, but his current placement at 15th seems fair.

To consistently crack the top 10, Smith will need to avoid stretches where he tries to do too much, reminiscent of his early struggles with the New York Jets, where he threw more interceptions than touchdowns. Additionally, improving pass protection on his right side, a longstanding issue, would greatly benefit his performance.
