JUST IN: Seahawks Blockbuster Trade Reshape Their Offense In Three-Player Proposal

The Seattle Seahawks have made a major move that will significantly impact their offense by parting ways with veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett.

One more big decision could put them in position to land Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick in next month’s NFL Draft.

Lockett’s longtime teammate, wideout DK Metcalf, requested a trade on March 5—the same day Seattle cut ties with Lockett. Meanwhile, quarterback Geno Smith has one year left on his $75 million deal and will turn 35 early next season.

The Seahawks could choose to hold onto Metcalf, who is in the final year of his contract, and either franchise-tag him at a steep price in 2026 or risk losing him for nothing. They could also stick with Smith and potentially remain in the playoff hunt.

However, true championship contention seems unlikely if Seattle runs it back with the Smith-Metcalf duo, especially after Smith’s underwhelming 2024 season, where he threw 21 touchdowns and 15 interceptions en route to a 10-7 record.

A different path could involve dealing both players to the Las Vegas Raiders, reuniting them with former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and creating a clear avenue for a rebuild. Rather than trying to compete immediately, Seattle could position itself to secure a quarterback capable of leading them into long-term contention.

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport proposed a trade scenario in which the Seahawks send Smith and Metcalf to the Raiders in exchange for the No. 6 overall pick in 2025, a third-rounder next year, and a seventh-round pick swap in 2026.

“Las Vegas turbocharges its rebuild,” Davenport wrote. “The Seahawks get a pick that could be combined with their own first-rounder to make a play for the first overall pick.”

Seattle currently holds the No. 18 selection, while the Tennessee Titans own the top pick. Reports indicate the Titans are open to trading it for the right offer, and a package including picks No. 6 and No. 18 could be enough to entice them—or at least serve as a strong starting point.

Ward is widely regarded as the top quarterback prospect in the 2025 class, offering the Seahawks a chance to make a bold move toward the future instead of treading water in 2025 with players who may not be around much longer.
