JUST IN: San Francisco Giants to land legitimate power threat for $175 Million Deal

The San Francisco Giants have lacked a true power hitter in their lineup since Barry Bonds. With plenty of power bats available in free agency this offseason, could New York Mets first baseman fill that void for manager Bob Melvin? Alonso, a staple in the Mets’ lineup since 2019, has hit 226 home runs—third-most in franchise history. However, 2024 saw a dip in his performance, with career-low stats in home runs (34), RBIs (88), and OPS (.788).

Even if Alonso doesn’t replicate his 2022-23 production (with back-to-back seasons of 40+ homers and 100+ RBIs), his power is something the Giants have long missed, with their last 30-home-run season dating back to Bonds in 2004.

Could Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey bring Alonso to San Francisco?

According to AMNY’s Joe Pantorno, it’s possible. He predicts the Giants, who have shown interest in big free agents lately, might finally land their “big fish” with Alonso, suggesting a six-year, $175 million deal.

However, Pantorno also speculates that if the Mets secure Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes, Alonso’s likelihood of staying in New York would increase.
