The San Francisco Giants appeared poised to pursue free-agent ace Corbin Burnes this offseason. However, Burnes stunned the baseball world by signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks, not only bypassing the Giants but also joining their division rival.
Now, the Giants must shift their focus to another starting pitcher to fill out their rotation. Christopher Kline of FanSided recently speculated that the Giants could target Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty. Flaherty played a pivotal role in the Dodgers’ 2024 World Series win, and Jon Heyman of the New York Post projects him to secure a four-year, $80 million deal.
“Among the remaining free-agent pitchers, few offer the upside of Jack Flaherty. While his recent seasons have been uneven, at his best, Flaherty has some of the nastiest stuff in the league,” Kline wrote. “After a disappointing postseason with the Baltimore Orioles in 2023, he bounced back in 2024 with the Dodgers, delivering a dominant performance that cemented his legacy.

“Though Flaherty initially expressed interest in staying with the Dodgers, his hometown team and a perennial contender, the Dodgers prioritized Blake Snell, effectively pricing Flaherty out of their plans. A move to San Francisco would not only keep him close to home but also give him an opportunity to face his former team as a rival.”
With Blake Snell heading to the Dodgers and Burnes joining the Diamondbacks, the Giants are under pressure to bolster their rotation to stay competitive in the division. Signing Flaherty could provide the stability and talent they need at the top of their pitching staff.
