After more than 25 years without a pennant, the San Diego Padres are adding a player with experience in that department.
Agent Joe Rosen revealed on social media this week that his client, infielder, has signed with the Padres as a free agent. The deal is reportedly a minor-league contract.
Brousseau, 30, made his mark with the Tampa Bay Rays, hitting .302 during the 2020 season and famously delivering a series-clinching home run against the New York Yankees in the playoffs, propelling Tampa Bay to the World Series. However, his performance has declined since, as he batted .238 from 2022-23 with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Last season, Brousseau was out of the MLB but managed a solid .276 average with 15 home runs and 41 RBIs in 93 games for Triple-A Syracuse, the New York Mets’ affiliate. With several infielders, including Ha-Seong Kim and Donovan Solano, departing in free agency and potential trades looming, Brousseau could carve out a role in San Diego in 2025, despite his limited upside.
