The Boston Red Sox sit at 32-35 on the season, placing them fourth in the AL East and trailing the division leader by 8.5 games.
They’re also four games out of a Wild Card spot. While they aren’t guaranteed to be sellers ahead of the July 31 trade deadline, they’ll need to step up their performance to stay in the playoff hunt.
If the team doesn’t find more consistency soon, it may fall too far behind in the standings to justify keeping certain players, particularly those set to hit free agency.
Should Boston opt to sell, they’d have several valuable assets contenders might pursue. FanSided’s Zachary Rotman identified Him as a prime trade candidate in that scenario.
“Given his elite stuff and strong season, He could be one of the most sought-after relievers on the market,” Rotman noted. “His left-handedness only increases his value. He’s been excellent for Boston, but if the Red Sox aren’t in contention, it’s smarter to get something in return rather than lose him for nothing in free agency.”
Now in his 16th MLB season, Chapman continues to throw over 100 mph, with 11 saves in 12 chances and 35 strikeouts. He would be a major boost to any contending team’s bullpen.
A seven-time All-Star and two-time World Series winner—both times following a midseason trade—Chapman’s playoff experience could make him one of the more talked-about names as the deadline approaches.
