JUST IN: Red Sox-Angels Blockbuster Trade Lands Mike Trout, Samuel Aldegheri In Three-Player Proposal

The Los Angeles Angels’ most significant offseason acquisition was left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, who signed a three-year, $63 million contract in November. However, a new trade proposal suggests the Angels could land a superstar via trade—but at the cost of their franchise cornerstone.

Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer proposes a deal that would send third baseman Rafael Devers to Anaheim in exchange for Angels superstar Mike Trout and additional assets.

The full trade scenario includes:
Angels receive: 3B Rafael Devers
Red Sox receive: RF Mike Trout, LHP Samuel Aldegheri (Angels’ No. 5 prospect), $100 million in cash

The idea of Devers leaving Boston is plausible, as the recent signing of Alex Bregman has strained his relationship with the Red Sox. Devers, who inked an 11-year, $331 million contract in 2023 expecting to be the team’s long-term third baseman, has voiced his frustration over a potential position change to second base.

Explosion Of Rafael Devers Hypothetical Trade Proposals Is A Nightmare For Red Sox

“I believe in people’s word and take it to heart, so I was very surprised they would suggest that,” Devers said through an interpreter regarding the possible switch.

While Devers’ departure from Boston seems feasible, the likelihood of Trout leaving the Angels remains slim. He has consistently expressed loyalty to the organization and is expected to finish his career in Anaheim.

Furthermore, MLB insider Robert Murray has suggested the Angels are unlikely to make any more significant moves this offseason.

“Previously, I mentioned the Angels were in the bullpen market, but now I’d be pretty surprised if they made another move,” Murray stated. “I don’t think Arte Moreno is looking to spend much more, if anything, this offseason. The roster is likely set, though with Moreno, things can change quickly.”
