The New York Rangers are reportedly exploring ways to boost their offensive firepower, and one trade idea suggests a significant one-for-one swap.

Using PuckPedia’s PuckGM trade simulator, a fan proposed a blockbuster deal that would send Jordan Kyrou to the Rangers in exchange for K’Andre Miller.

Trade proposal:

Rangers receive:

  • Jordan Kyrou

Blues receive:

  • K’Andre Miller

This trade would be a major move for both teams. The Rangers would add Kyrou, a dynamic forward, to their top six. Kyrou is entering the third season of his eight-year, $65 million contract with St. Louis and is coming off a strong season with 36 goals and 34 assists (70 points) over 82 games.

In return, the Blues would get Miller, a talented 25-year-old defenseman who is a pending restricted free agent. Miller earned $3.872 million last season and is expected to get a raise. While he had a quieter year with 7 goals and 20 assists in 74 games, he remains a promising top-four blueliner who could anchor the Blues’ defense.

Rangers Testing Trade Market for Miller

Miller is a restricted free agent (RFA) this offseason, and his name has surfaced in trade discussions.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the New York Rangers are exploring the trade market for Miller, though a deal isn’t guaranteed.

“They’re testing the waters on Miller,” Friedman said on 32 Thoughts. “There’s no certainty he’ll be moved, but his name is definitely being talked about.”

Additionally, NHL insider Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff ranked Miller as the 10th-most likely player to be traded this offseason.

“One of the key decisions facing GM Chris Drury is how to shape the Rangers’ defense,” Seravalli noted. “The team has struggled defensively in front of Igor Shesterkin across multiple coaching staffs. That points to issues with the roster. At just 25, Miller’s smooth and efficient skating makes him an asset, and ideally part of the solution. But he’s also due for a significant pay raise and a new contract that would cover some of his UFA years, which will be costly.”

Miller was originally selected 22nd overall by the Rangers in the 2018 NHL Draft.

Rangers Coach Has High Expectations for Team

The New York Rangers missed the playoffs this season and responded by parting ways with head coach Peter Laviolette.

They acted quickly in naming Mike Sullivan as his replacement. Sullivan, who led the Pittsburgh Penguins to consecutive Stanley Cup titles in 2016 and 2017, brings a wealth of experience and high expectations to New York, believing the team has the potential to contend for a championship.

“Spending ten years with the people and players I worked with in Pittsburgh taught me a lot,” Sullivan said. “I want to bring those lessons to New York to help me grow as a coach and get the most out of this group. Our goal is to challenge the players daily so we can unlock the full potential of this team and see where that takes us.”

“There’s definitely a lot of skill in this locker room, but as we all know, talent alone doesn’t win championships. Teams do,” he added. “Our mission from the very start is to come together and become a true team.”

The Rangers ended their season with a 39-36-7 record.
