JUST IN: Rangers Signed Contract With Another Star

New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced that the team has signed defenseman Chad Ruhwedel to a one-year contract.

Ruhwedel, 34, tallied one goal and three assists for four points across 52 games during the 2023-24 season, playing five games with the Rangers and 47 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers acquired him from Pittsburgh in a trade on March 8, 2024. Standing at 5-11 and weighing 191 pounds, Ruhwedel also recorded 90 hits and 44 blocked shots this season.

Hailing from San Diego, California, Ruhwedel has played in 364 NHL games with the Rangers, Penguins, and Buffalo Sabres, amassing 13 goals and 36 assists for 49 points. In the 2021-22 season, he achieved career-highs in goals (4), assists (9), points (13), hits (149), and blocked shots (86).

A 2017 Stanley Cup Champion, Ruhwedel has participated in 25 career playoff games, including 12 in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Ruhwedel was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Sabres in 2013 after a three-year collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, where he served as an alternate captain in his final season.
