The Los Angeles Rams addressed their quarterback situation and solidified their offensive line before the offseason started. Despite this, they still plan to part ways with Cooper Kupp and are rumored to be interested in signing Davante Adams in free agency as a potential replacement.

Although the Rams don’t have an immediate need for a wide receiver, with Kupp still on the roster, they remain among the favorites to acquire Adams. As of March 4, they had the fourth-best odds at +750 on DraftKings.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio noted on March 4 that the Green Bay Packers, who drafted Adams in 2014, are currently the favorites to sign him, with +190 odds on DraftKings. The Chargers follow at +500, the 49ers at +650, the Rams at +750, the Steelers at +950, and the Broncos and Patriots at +1000.

Rams GM Says Cooper Kupp Staying With Team Possible, but 'Least Likely' Option

Adams, 32, recorded 85 catches for 1,063 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2024, numbers that would have led the Rams. He has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in five consecutive seasons and six of the last seven, with only one season (997 yards) falling short. Adams is a six-time Pro Bowler and a three-time All-Pro. He has led the NFL in touchdown receptions twice, once with the Packers and once with the Raiders.

Jets’ 6-Word Announcement Could Bode Well for Rams

Davante Adams completed his sole season with the New York Jets in 2024, playing 11 games after being traded from the Las Vegas Raiders. The Jets officially announced his release on March 4, which could work in favor of the Rams.

“We have released WR Davante Adams,” the Jets posted on X on March 4, following earlier rumors of their decision.

Davante Adams, Los Angeles Rams

Adams, originally from Redwood City, California, played college football at Fresno State.

The Chargers are considered the biggest threat to the Rams in the race for Adams, especially if he prefers to stay on the West Coast. He’s also been linked to whichever team signs Aaron Rodgers, making the Steelers and New York Giants possible, but perhaps unexpected, contenders for his services.

If a bidding war ensues, the Rams might decide to continue with their youth-focused approach.

Adams was also reported to have an interest in joining the Rams if he were released by the Jets this offseason.

“Sources tell me Adams is intrigued by a return to the West Coast and would be open to potentially joining teams such as the Rams or Chargers — if he gets released,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote on February 8. “I’d also include the 49ers in the conversation.”

Davante Adams May Not Fit Rams Plans’ in Free Agency

Jordan Whittington, Los Angeles Rams

Davante Adams was previously on a five-year, $140 million contract before the Jets released him. Over the course of his career, he has earned $129.8 million.

Spotrac estimates Adams’ market value at a two-year, $27.2 million deal.

Over The Cap projects the Rams will have $54.6 million in cap space. Additionally, they could free up up to $20 million more (with $9.8 million in dead money) by trading Cooper Kupp after June 1. However, even with this flexibility, it’s unclear whether Adams would fit into the Rams’ plans if his asking price is too high in free agency.

The Rams still have second-year wide receiver Jordan Whittington and the 26th overall pick in the 2025 draft as potential options to replace Kupp if Adams proves too costly.
