JUST IN: Pittsburgh Steelers to Land 2,200-Yard RB to Replace Najee Harris

When Najee Harris joined the Los Angeles Chargers as a free agent, the Pittsburgh Steelers lost one half of their dynamic backfield duo in the AFC North.

Harris’ rare combination of open-field explosiveness and bruising physicality made him a perfect fit for Pittsburgh’s offense, and he could flourish as the lead back under Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

However, the Steelers might look to a familiar option to fill the void left by Harris.

Why the Browns Should Consider Signing Free Agent RB J.K. Dobbins - Sports4CLE, 3/19/25

Could the Pittsburgh Steelers Sign J.K. Dobbins?

With NFL free agency well into its second wave, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox compiled a list of ideal free-agent targets for each team. For the Steelers, he suggested former Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins as a potential replacement for Najee Harris in their backfield committee.

“Dobbins certainly carries injury concerns,” Knox acknowledged in his B/R analysis. “But he can provide value as a starter or a high-end complementary back. The Steelers, who ironically lost starter Najee Harris to L.A. in free agency, should be interested. Dobbins can be the physical between-the-tackles runner that Pittsburgh needs to complement Jaylen Warren.”

Pittsburgh Steelers Among Favorites for Former Chargers RB

Having spent the early years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, Dobbins is no stranger to the Steelers. The former second-round pick has averaged 5.2 yards per carry and recorded five rushing touchdowns over his first four seasons, showcasing his potential as a dynamic option in the backfield.

Last season, he demonstrated his ability to handle a significant workload, tying a career-high with nine rushing touchdowns while easing some concerns about his durability.

If Pittsburgh opts for a cost-effective veteran instead of prioritizing the position in the NFL Draft, Dobbins could be a logical target to bolster their backfield.
