He is entering the final season of his four-year, $79 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, which he signed in 2022. During his tenure, the Phillies have consistently made deep playoff runs, including a World Series appearance in his first year with the team.
Now 32, Schwarber continues to produce at a high level with no signs of decline. He has become a key figure in Philadelphia, and it appears he hopes to remain with the team beyond this season.
Will the Phillies choose to extend Schwarber?
Kyle Schwarber has solidified himself as a key figure in Philadelphia. The power-hitting leadoff man shattered a 21-year-old record this past season, launching 15 leadoff home runs—surpassing Alfonso Soriano’s previous mark of 13. His historic run included a leadoff homer in Game 1 of the 2024 NLDS. With 46 career leadoff home runs, Schwarber ranks among the top eight in MLB history.

Letting Schwarber hit free agency would be a major misstep for the Phillies. He has averaged over 43 home runs and 100 RBIs per season during his time in Philadelphia, production that would make him highly coveted on the open market. When asked about a possible contract extension, Schwarber made it clear he wants to stay.
“I’ve enjoyed my time so much,” he told Kyle Odegard of Sports Talk Philly. “I was with the Cubs for years, then signed a one-year deal with Boston. Being here feels like home now. I’d love to keep that going as long as I can. Hopefully, we can win multiple World Series in the years to come.”
When a deal could get done
Kyle Schwarber has yet to report to spring training, as he’s currently crushing golf balls at the Waste Management Pro-Am.
Once camp gets underway, extension talks could gain traction. “I haven’t gone down to Spring (Training) yet, but there’s interest on my side, and we’ll see if there’s interest on their side,” Schwarber said. “We’ll go from there.”

If I’m the Phillies, I wouldn’t hesitate to extend him. A player who led the league in walks and posted a .366 OBP last season is worth keeping. Lock him up and keep the Schwarbombs flying at Citizens Bank Park for years to come.
