The Philadelphia Phillies are rumored to be considering a significant roster overhaul this offseason. While they plan to retain their core players, All-Stars like Alec Bohm and Nick Castellanos could reportedly be on the trading block. Additionally, key relievers Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez are set to hit free agency, creating potential gaps in the bullpen.
With Hoffman and Estévez departing, bolstering the bullpen will likely be a priority for the Phillies. Christopher Kline of FanSided has proposed a compelling solution: signing the top reliever on the market, Tanner Scott.
According to Spotrac, Scott is projected to command a four-year, $65 million contract, though his value might increase due to strong market demand.

“Both Hoffman and Estevez are free agents this winter, leaving the Phillies at risk of major losses to a bullpen that could already use a boost. Why not Tanner Scott, the top-ranked reliever in this free agency class?” Kline wrote. “Scott split last season between Miami and San Diego, meaning the Phillies are well-acquainted with his talent.
The hard-throwing lefty excelled in 72 appearances (72.0 innings), posting a 1.75 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 84 strikeouts.”
Scott would be an ideal fit for the Phillies, provided they can address other roster needs first. While a deal exceeding $15 million annually for a closer is steep, Scott’s elite skill set could make him worth the investment—if the Phillies can manage their budget effectively.
