The Philadelphia Phillies have signed veteran infielder to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, according to Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors.
Arroyo, who turns 30 in May, has played 295 career games in the majors with the San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Guardians, and Boston Red Sox.
Last season, he signed a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers but was limited to just 37 minor league games due to injuries. Throughout his major league career, Arroyo has posted a .252/.299/.394 slash line with 24 home runs and 120 RBIs. His most recent big league action came with the Red Sox from 2021-23.
During his time in Boston, Arroyo showcased his versatility, playing all four infield positions, right field, and even making a relief pitching appearance in a blowout game in 2021. In 2023, he appeared in 66 games, recording 206 plate appearances and hitting .241/.268/.369.

Arroyo had more productive seasons in 2021 and 2022, posting a .277/.323/.426 slash line with 12 home runs, 61 RBIs, and six stolen bases over 144 games.
Hoping to make the Brewers’ roster as a non-roster invitee last year, Arroyo struggled in spring training, going just 4-for-22 in Cactus League games. Instead of opting out, he was sent to the Brewers’ minor league camp but continued to deal with a nagging wrist injury, limiting his performance at Triple-A Nashville, where he hit .237/.305/.360 in 30 games when healthy.
Now looking for another opportunity, Arroyo will compete for a bench role with the Phillies. Their non-roster invitee list also includes infielders Carson Taylor, Rodolfo Castro, Rafael Lantigua, Otto Kemp, and top prospect Aidan Miller.
Once a highly regarded prospect, Arroyo was ranked in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 before the 2016, 2017, and 2018 seasons. The Giants traded him to the Rays in December 2017 as part of the deal that sent Evan Longoria to San Francisco. However, his time in Tampa Bay was limited to just 36 major league games over the next two seasons.
