The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly bolstered their starting rotation by acquiring Jesús Luzardo from the Miami Marlins.
Could president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski also pull off a deal for Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr.?
With ace Garrett Crochet now traded to the Boston Red Sox, Robert remains one of the top trade assets for Chicago. After a challenging 2024 season in which he posted a .657 OPS over 425 plate appearances, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal shed light on what the White Sox might seek in return for the slugger.
“For Robert, the White Sox do not expect to receive multiple top prospects but would want a ‘meaningful piece’ in return, a source said,” Rosenthal reported.

Given this, Zachary Rotman of FanSided believes that acquiring Robert would be a “no-brainer” move for Dombrowski.
“All the Chicago White Sox want for Luis Robert is one ‘meaningful piece,’” Rotman noted. “They don’t expect multiple top prospects. Unless the White Sox demand that ‘meaningful piece’ be Andrew Painter, would Dombrowski really pass up the opportunity?”
Painter, ranked as the Phillies’ second-best overall prospect and top pitching prospect by MLB.com, could be a key consideration. Meanwhile, the Phillies are reportedly sending shortstop Starlyn Caba (No. 4 prospect) and outfielder Emaarion Boyd (No. 23 prospect) to Miami for Luzardo, leaving other valuable prospects available for a potential deal for Robert.
Despite his struggles in 2024, Robert is just one year removed from winning a 2023 Silver Slugger Award. That standout season saw him achieve career-highs in home runs (38), doubles (36), RBIs (80), and runs scored (90) across 595 plate appearances.
The outfielder is set to earn $15 million in 2025, the final guaranteed year of his six-year, $50 million contract, which also includes club options for 2026 and 2027 at $20 million annually.
