On Sunday morning, the Philadelphia Phillies made a major move by acquiring Miami Marlins ace Jesús Luzardo in a blockbuster trade. Luzardo joins an already impressive rotation filled with All-Stars.
This addition could signal more potential moves for the Phillies.
FanSided’s Mark Powell recently speculated that the Phillies might part ways with All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm following Luzardo’s arrival. Spotrac projects Bohm to sign a seven-year, $142 million contract when he becomes a free agent in 2027.

Powell noted, “The Phillies appear ready to capitalize on Alec Bohm’s value. While I’m not particularly keen on Nolan Arenado or other corner infielders available, Bohm just had a career-best season with 3.0 WAR and 97 RBIs. If the Phillies believe he’s peaked, trading him now for a suitable replacement and more MLB-ready talent makes sense.”
Bohm’s situation is intriguing. He’s young, talented, under team control, and highly regarded as a teammate. The Phillies would only consider trading him to maximize his current value. Earlier rumors linked Bohm to deals for pitchers like Luis Castillo and Garrett Crochet, where he could have been a centerpiece in exchange for an ace.
However, with Philadelphia already addressing its need for a starting pitcher, there doesn’t appear to be an urgent reason to move Bohm. It’s likely the Phillies will hold onto their starting infielder for now.
