The New York Mets are aggressively pursuing Juan Soto this offseason, but their primary goal is to enhance their roster and achieve greater success. Even if they don’t land Soto, they still have opportunities to improve their team.
In addition to Soto, re-signing fan-favorite Pete Alonso is a top priority for the Mets. Alonso has attracted interest from other teams, including the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees, following a strong 2024 season.
Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report recently predicted that Alonso will re-sign with the Mets, projecting a five-year, $135 million deal for the slugger.

“Pete Alonso has hit 40 or more home runs three times. Even in what was considered a down year last season, he still hit 34 home runs with 88 RBIs and a .788 OPS,” Kelly wrote. “As he enters his age-30 season, we’ve projected a five-year, $135 million deal. Is that really a big risk for one of the top power hitters in the game?”
Kelly also predicted that Soto will re-sign with the Yankees. With that in mind, a five-year, $135 million deal for Alonso would make sense for the Mets, but it’s unlikely that Alonso will sign for that amount. Instead, he will probably seek a deal worth over $150 million, and there will be no shortage of teams interested. The Mets are likely willing to offer more than Kelly’s projected figure, particularly if they miss out on Soto.
