In 2024, the New York Mets leaned heavily on reclamation projects to bolster their pitching rotation. Pitchers like Luis Severino and Sean Manaea thrived, earning significant contracts in free agency, with Manaea opting to re-sign with the Mets.

This offseason, the Mets have brought in several new starting pitchers for the 2025 season and beyond, casting doubt on the future of free-agent left-hander.

He spent the last two seasons with the Mets, making 44 starts and pitching 246 innings. Over that span, he posted a 3.70 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP, delivering steady performances. However, it seems likely that the Mets will move on from him this winter.

Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report has predicted that Quintana could sign with the Washington Nationals, a National League East rival, on a two-year, $26 million deal.

“At his age, durability isn’t a sure thing, but His approach—relying on 90 mph pitches and inducing ground balls—does provide some reassurance,” Rymer explained. “It’s not flashy, but it’s effective enough to make him a reliable mid-rotation option. Teams can always use someone like that.”

Mets planning to shut down Jose Quintana for three months

If the Nationals manage to sign Him at $13 million per year, it could prove to be a bargain. While his advanced metrics, such as FIP and WHIP, suggest potential regression, Quintana continues to deliver consistent results.

Despite analytics hinting at a possible decline in 2025, his track record makes it hard to overlook his reliability. Adding Quintana would be a smart move for the Nationals.
