JUST IN: Los Angeles Dodgers To Cut Ties With $71 Million Star Outfielder This Offseason After Extending Qualify Offer

The Los Angeles Dodgers are shaping up to be a nightmare for the rest of Major League Baseball. They’re methodically building a powerhouse superteam that other franchises may struggle to compete with.

It started with stars like Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts. Last offseason, they added Shohei Ohtani, and now, they’ve secured a five-year, $182 million deal with two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell.

While this is cause for celebration for nearly all of Los Angeles, not everyone on the team is thrilled about so much money being allocated to one player.

FanSided’s Wynston Wilcox suggests that this financial commitment makes it unlikely the Dodgers will retain outfielder Teoscar Hernández in 2025. Spotrac predicts Hernández will sign a three-year, $71 million contract this winter.

“Teoscar Hernández was another player the Dodgers were likely to let walk this winter. While they extended a qualifying offer worth just over $21 million, he’s expected to explore his market value after having one of the best seasons of his career in 2024,” Wilcox explained. “With Clayton Kershaw set to return to Los Angeles and the team bolstering its pitching staff, it’s unlikely they’ll match any offers exceeding the qualifying offer.”

Hernández is likely to land with a team in need of outfield depth. The Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, and Baltimore Orioles are all potential suitors. However, a reunion with the Toronto Blue Jays might make the most sense, particularly if the Blue Jays miss out on signing superstar Juan Soto in free agency.
