JUST IN: Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets Ideal $200 Million Trade Target To Sign With Different NL Team

The New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers are targeting a similar group of free agents this offseason. Both teams have met with superstar Juan Soto and are expected to pursue pitcher Corbin Burnes.

Another player on their radar is Milwaukee Brewers infielder Willy Adames. While Adames is primarily a shortstop—a position he’d play for the Dodgers if signed—he would likely shift to third base if the Mets were to acquire him.

However, FanSided’s Nick Villano doesn’t believe Adames will end up with either team. Instead, he predicts the Atlanta Braves will sign him. Spotrac projects Adames to secure a six-year, $152 million deal, though some estimates suggest his contract could approach $200 million due to the high demand for shortstops in free agency.

Braves' Willy Adames backup plan could be a really tough pill to swallow

“The Braves need a shortstop and have money to spend,” Villano explained. “Injuries exposed their depth last season, and they’re focused on strengthening their core to compete for another World Series. Adames fits the bill with his age and talent, and he provides valuable offensive support while Ronald Acuña Jr. recovers from injury.”

The Braves’ need for a shortstop, coupled with their financial flexibility, makes Adames a logical target. His addition would significantly bolster Atlanta’s roster as they aim to rebound from a disappointing 2024 season.
